There will also be a run on Sunday 31st August from The Golden Lion at Llangynhafal.

Eccles Pike – 13th August
A good turnout of 121 runners tackled this 3½ mile run up and down Eccles Pike from The Navigation at Buxworth. With a climb of only 650 feet the race tends to be fast and furious and Danny Hope of Pudsey & Bradley was first home in 21.17 with Claire Parker of Pennine the first lady in 26.47. This was the third race in the club novice fell championship and Shaun led the Altrincham runners from start to finish to move up into joint second place with Lynne. Stewart had a very good run to finish ahead of Kath who was first lady over 40, less than a week before her 50th birthday. Craig again managed to stay close enough to Colin to be able to pass him on the descent.

Tegg’s Nose – 9th August

A very wet and windy day led to a low turnout of 52 runners for this race which is held in conjunction with Macclesfield Sheep Dog Trials. Luckily the rain eased just before the start and it was dry during most of the race. The course has often been changed at the whim of the local farmers but this year it remained the same as last year at 7.6 miles and 1772 feet. Bev, running her first fell race, made a good start and was ahead of Colin for the first two miles. Colin started slowly but picked up places on the climbs and managed to hold on to them on the descent. Bev coped well on her debut and wasn’t far behind at the end. Veteran Malcolm Fowler of Cheshire Hill Racers was the winner in 55.23 with Anne Johnson of CalderValley first lady in 65.41.

 Cracken Edge – 6th August

This was the eighth race in this years club fell championship and saw Sean take maximum points for the first time. He covered the seven miles in just over 54 minutes on a warm evening with a few showers around. Leo Harvey had a really good run, making light of the 1450 feet of climbing and finishing more than three minutes ahead of his mum Kath who was second lady. Craig tracked Colin all the way round and used his superior finishing speed on the mad dash down the final field to squeeze past in the final stride. Ann-Marie showed she is getting back to full fitness with an excellent run to claim the over 50 ladies’ prize and Robin also ran strongly. Almost 200 runners started and Steve Vernon of Stockport set a new course record of 40.14 with Sandra Cooper of Glossopdale leading the ladies home in 53.21.
