Introduction
The Bowdon 5km is a fairly recent addition to the North West racing calendar. First held in 1999, the race has proved capable of producing fast times with course records of 14:32 for men and 16:33 for women.
The race headquarters (including car parking, registration, and presentation) is The Stamford Arms Pub. To get there, exit the M56 at the junction signposted M6/Altrincham/Tatton Park/Dunham Massey. Follow the A56 towards Altrincham (NOT the A56 towards Lymm). After a mile or so, you come to a church just after a sharp bend. Turn right here (St Margarets Road). Follow this road to the T-junction and turn right. The race headquarters is the Stamford Arms (parking next door at the Bowdon Rooms) which is on your left after a couple of hundred metres. The race start is around the corner, details will be provided at registration.
In its third year now, Altrincham are organising a 5km grand prix series in conjunction with Spectrum Striders. The Bowdon 5km is to be the third race in the series and will be held on Thursday 5th June 2008 at 7:15pm.

The Course
The course is mainly along quiet residential roads in the leafy suburbs of Bowdon. Fast and flat, the course does involve one short off road section although this is over fast running terrain and hasn’t seemed to hinder athlete’s times. The course is ideal for beginners who have never took part in a road race before – short and flat with no hills.
The race starts round the corner from the Stamford Arms where you begin a circuit of the Devisdale which you complete twice.
The course has been measured and certified as an accurate 5km distance by an official North of England AA course measurer
